During our testing period, it did the job in a single back-and-forth pass.

The Shark hz500uk stick vacuum is equipped with a powerful 450 Watt motor that generates adequate suction, which is more than enough to lift and remove dirt, dust, and debris from hardwood floors. When we selected the cleaning mode in the hard floor settings, the brush roll was still kept rotating, but we haven’t faced any debris scattering issues with this corded vacuum.

One of the key features of this vacuum cleaner is its duo clean floor head design. The soft brush roll at the front moves debris to the intake, and the standard bristle brush roll with Powerfins at the middle, agitates carpets fibre to pick up dirt and debris from deep effectively.

Additionally, the Shark pet version is equipped with a wide range of attachments and accessories, including a crevice tool, dusting brush, and pet turbo brush, making it easy to clean tight spaces, hard-to-reach areas, stairs and upholstery.

During testing, the suction was down very low at the carpet’s settings, and it struggled to pick up all the messes from the carpets. 

Note, this Shark HZ500UK is undoubtedly well performer for hard floors but not ideal for mostly carpeted houses. We rated it 4.2 out of 5 according to its overall cleaning effectiveness on different carpet types. Also, it has no height setting to adjust the cleaning head for different pile types.

If you own pets, the pet version will suit you better; this particular model has a turbo pet brush, and it can be attached to the vacuum nozzle to better clean pets’ hair from upholstery, pet beds and carpeted stairs.  

Additionally, the Shark hz500uk has a HEPA filter that captures 99.97% of dust, allergens and pet dander, making it a great choice for households with allergies or asthma.

You must be sure you’re choosing the pet version; on stair steps, it was hard to manoeuvre the whole vacuum with its primary cleaning head. So, the pet version will allow you to attach the pet brush to the vacuum nozzle, as shown in the picture. In this way, you’ll get a better stair-cleaning experience.
